25 KJV Bible Verses for Anxiety
For the worried mind and the 3 AM heart
SaveWhen your mind won't slow down, you don't need a long sermon. You need one true sentence to hold on to. These 25 verses are all from the King James Bible, and each one has a short note on how to pray it.
Pick one. Read it slowly, out loud if you can. Then tell God plainly what is worrying you. You don't have to read all 25 today.
When worry won't let go
1. Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
6Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Name the worry, then ask, then thank Him. The peace here guards your heart; it doesn't wait for every answer first.
2. 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Casting is an action. Say the worry out loud and hand it over, as many times as it comes back.
3. Matthew 6:34 (KJV)
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Today has enough in it. Tomorrow's trouble can wait until tomorrow.
4. Psalm 94:19 (KJV)
In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.
God meets you in the middle of a crowded mind, not after you've tidied it.
5. Psalm 55:22 (KJV)
Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
A burden is heavy. He doesn't tell you it isn't; He tells you where to put it.
6. Psalm 139:23 (KJV)
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
A brave prayer for an anxious day: let God see the thoughts you'd rather hide.

When you are afraid
7. Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Five promises in one verse: with thee, thy God, strengthen, help, uphold.
8. Psalm 56:3 (KJV)
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
Not if I am afraid, but what time. Fear comes; trust is what you do next.
9. 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Fear is a feeling you have, not who you are in Christ.
10. Psalm 34:4 (KJV)
I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
David sought the Lord first, and the deliverance came after the seeking.
11. Joshua 1:9 (KJV)
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Courage here isn't the absence of fear. It's knowing who goes with you.
12. Deuteronomy 31:8 (KJV)
And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
He goes before you into the day you're dreading.
13. Isaiah 43:2 (KJV)
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
Not if you pass through the waters, but when. And He is there in them.
For peace and rest
14. John 14:27 (KJV)
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
The peace Jesus gives isn't the world's kind, the kind that depends on everything going right.
15. Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Peace follows where the mind rests. Give your thoughts one place to land.
16. Matthew 11:28-30 (KJV)
28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
An invitation, not an instruction. Come as tired as you are.
17. Psalm 4:8 (KJV)
I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
A verse for the pillow. Safety is the Lord's job tonight, not yours.
18. Psalm 23:4 (KJV)
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
The valley is real, and so is the Shepherd walking through it with you.
19. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (KJV)
Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.
Peace always, by all means: in every kind of day, not only the calm ones.
20. Proverbs 12:25 (KJV)
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
Heaviness is normal. A good word lifts it, so read this one to someone else too.
When you need to remember who holds you
21. Psalm 46:1 (KJV)
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
A very present help: not far off, not later. Present.
22. Psalm 121:1-2 (KJV)
1I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
Look up from the problem to the One who made everything around it.
23. Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV)
22It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Written in a terrible season. His mercies still came new every morning.
24. John 16:33 (KJV)
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Jesus never promised a life without trouble. He promised He has overcome it.
25. Romans 8:38-39 (KJV)
38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Make a list of what you fear. None of it can separate you from His love.
Anxiety is not a lack of faith. Many faithful people in the Bible were afraid, and God met them there. If worry is heavy or won't lift, please talk to your doctor, a counselor or your pastor. Asking for help is one of the ways God answers prayer. If you are in crisis in the US, call or text 988, any time.
