Prayers for Grief and Loss
Grief doesn't follow a schedule. It shows up in a song at the store, an empty chair, a phone number you can't bring yourself to delete. Jesus wept at His friend's grave. Your tears are not a lack of faith.
These prayers are for the brokenhearted: after a death, a miscarriage, a divorce, or a loss no one else seems to see. Pray them slowly. Below are King James verses that have comforted grieving people for centuries.
God,
it hurts. I miss them in ways I can't explain to anyone. Some days I'm fine and some days I can't get out of the car. You said You are near to the brokenhearted, so please be near now. Hold me in the waves. Thank You for the years I had and the love that doesn't stop. Comfort the others who are missing them too. And keep my eyes on the day You wipe away every tear.
In Jesus' name, Amen.

Bible verses for comfort in grief (KJV)
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
