Prayers for Waiting on God

Waiting is one of the hardest parts of faith. You've prayed, you've done what you can, and the answer still hasn't come: the diagnosis, the job, the spouse, the child, the reconciliation.

Scripture doesn't call waiting wasted time. "They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength." These prayers are for the in-between, and they ask for patience, hope and a softer heart while you wait.

A prayer for waiting

God,

Lord, I'm still waiting. You know how long I've prayed about this and how tired I am of asking. I don't understand Your timing, but I choose to trust Your heart. Keep me from running ahead of You or giving up on You. Renew my strength for today. Show me what to do while I wait, and give me peace with what I can't see yet. When the answer comes, let me remember it was You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Bible verses about waiting on the Lord (KJV)

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
