Prayers for Work

Most of our waking hours are spent working: at a desk, on a shift, on the road, at home with kids. God is not absent from any of it.

These prayers are for the workday, for a hard boss or an overwhelming inbox, for finding a job, or for doing ordinary work well. Below are King James verses about work and its meaning.

A prayer for work

God,

Lord, I'm giving You this workday. Establish the work of my hands. Give me focus for what matters, patience with the people who test me, and honesty when a shortcut is tempting. Help me work as for You and not only for a paycheck or praise. If I'm looking for work, open the right door. If I'm worn out, give me rest. Let the way I work be a quiet witness to Your goodness.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Bible verses about work (KJV)

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
